Global consequentialism states that
- the moral decision procedure is determined by the actual consequences of an action
- the moral wrongness is determined directly by the actual consequences of the action
- moral sanctions are applied only if it brings out the greatest good
Hence we can see in this situation that there can exist a paradox when a moral action has to be executed. This is because
- How can action be right and and yet the agent has to be blamed at the same time?
But then right, I can think of a situation where Global Consequentialism works:
Someone might murder another person because it brings out the greatest good, but it will bring out even better good if he is blamed.
Does that make sense?
